How does the sealing structure of the butterfly valve prevent fluid leakage?


The sealing structure of the butterfly valve is a key part to prevent fluid leakage. The sealing structure of the butterfly valve mainly includes the contact surface between the valve seat and the valve disc (or butterfly plate). The following are some of the main ways butterfly valve sealing structure to prevent fluid leakage:

Metal seal: Some butterfly valves use metal-to-metal sealing. In this structure, the valve seat and valve are made of metal, through precision processing and grinding, so that the two contact surfaces closely fit, so as to achieve the purpose of preventing leakage. This sealing method is suitable for high temperature, high pressure or corrosive fluid.

elastic sealOther butterfly valves adopt elastic sealing structure, that is, elastic materials (such as rubber, PTFE, etc.) are embedded in the valve seat or valve flap. When the valve is closed, the elastic material is compressed, forming a sealing barrier to prevent fluid leakage. This sealing method is suitable for low pressure, non corrosive fluid.

Double seal: In order to further improve the sealing performance, some butterfly valves also use a double sealing structure. That is, two sealing barriers are set between the valve seat and the valve flap. Even if one of the seals fails, the other seal can still prevent fluid leakage.

In addition to the design of the sealing structure, the installation and maintenance of the butterfly valve is also an important part of preventing fluid leakage. Correct installation and regular maintenance inspections can ensure that the sealing performance of the butterfly valve is always in good condition. For example, when installing a butterfly valve, it is necessary to ensure that the contact surface of the valve seat and the valve clack is clean and undamaged; during use, it is necessary to regularly check the wear of the sealing structure and replace the damaged seals in time.
